Meets on June 18 and June 23 from 8 AM to Noon EDT
This 8-hour program divided over two mornings one week apart tackles 5S Workplace Organization, a critical component of any successful Lean implementation. 5S Part one will focus on the first three “S’s” of the 5S system. Attendees will discover how important S1 – Sorting is and how to think about “Actual Value vs. Intrinsic Value.” We will then discuss S2 – Setting in Order. Students will see examples of setting in order and discover how important it is to involve the correct people in the process – the persons doing the work. Finally, we will discuss S3 – Shine (also sweep or straighten). We will discuss how most companies look at this as a daily activity and we will discuss how it should really be something that is moment to moment. We will use some videos to get key points across as well as some activities to help drive home some key points.
5S Part 2 will focus on the final two “S’s”, Standardize and Sustain. We will discuss different tools that will help attendees standardize their 5S process across their businesses. Tools such as Zones and Teams, 5S Daily Check Sheet (also used as part of S3), and a 5S Color Coding System will be discussed and examples given. Finally, we will learn about S5 Sustain. Here we will also discuss tools that your organization may choose to implement as a part of your 5S system that will help protect the gains you have made. We will look at 5S Audits, 5S Communications Boards, Kaizen Newspapers or Before and after templates, Actions lists and Steering Committees. After these two days you will have enough to get your 5S program off the ground.
