In this virtual 4-hour session students will be introduced to Problem Solving & Root Cause Analysis for Corrective Action The 8d problem solving is about teams working together to resolve problems, using a structured 8-step process to help focus on facts not opinion.

The 8 disciplines are as follows:
  • Discipline 1 – Build the Team
  • Discipline 2 – Describe the Problem
  • Discipline 3 – Implement a Temporary Fix
  • Discipline 4 – Eliminate Root Cause
  • Discipline 5 – Verify Corrective Action
  • Discipline 6 – Implement Permanent Fix
  • Discipline 7 – Stop It Happening Again
  • Discipline 8 – Celebrate Success

The training will review and discuss the 8 steps within the process, compare the 8d process with the other recognized problem solving processes (PDCA, DMAIC and TPS 6 step process). Each discipline will introduce tools to help complete each step within the process. The depth and instruction within each tool can be varied based on previous exposure learned from other classes completed (Six Sigma and or Lean Certification Classes). The training will utilize some generic examples for learning the tools. The 8d problem solving process is used by big businesses such as National Semiconductor, Shell and Toyota. The key is focusing on facts and not opinion; being disciplined enough to follow the process and remembering that a good team is worth more than the sum of the individuals
 
After taking this class attendees should be able to:
  • Understand the principles of 8D Problem Solving
  • Recognize the importance of devoting appropriate time and effort to root cause problem solving to solve them forever
  • Introduce 8D Problem Solving to the shop floor
